  As a circuit designer, it is necessary to master how to select fuses. However, in reality, including many engineering designers in large factories, they are not very familiar with or even understand how to correctly select current fuses. The following are several factors that must be considered when selecting current fuses:

  1. Size and appearance:

  I believe everyone knows about the size and appearance of the fuse. The size of the fuse chosen mainly depends on the space of the circuit and the installation method of the fuse. At present, our company's main current fuse sizes include: 8 * 4 * 7 square fuse, 8 * 8 round fuse, 3.6 * 10 (4 * 11) fuse, 5 * 20 fuse tube, 6 * 30 fuse tube, etc. The latter three types of fuses are divided into lead fuse and individual fuse tube.

  2. Rated voltage:

  The voltage of the circuit must be less than or equal to the rated voltage of the fuse. That is to say, if the voltage of the circuit is 125V, both the rated voltage of the selected fuse 125V and 250V can be used. If the circuit voltage is 250V, only 250V fuses can be used, not 125V fuses.

  3. Time/current characteristics:

  The time/current characteristic, also known as the fusing characteristic, is divided into two types: fast break and slow break. The choice of a model depends on the protective effect of the fuse on the circuit. If it is required to withstand both the impact of large pulse currents and the protection effect during overcurrent, a slow breaking fuse should be chosen for this situation. If the circuit is sensitive to current pulses, which may damage other components of the circuit, a quick break fuse should be selected.

  4. Maximum normal working current of the entire machine (IN):

  This is the main condition for determining the selection of fuse specifications, and based on this condition, the specifications of the fuse can be preliminarily determined. Considering the differences between actual use and laboratory conditions, the rated current of the selected fuse should be calculated based on the following formula when using an ambient temperature of 25 ℃:

  American standard category: rated current of fuse (IRATED)=IN/0.75

  European standard: Rated current of fuse (IRATED)=IN
