What is overcurrent protection - Short circuit protection is characterized by high setting current and instantaneous action. Electromagnetic current releases (or relays) and fuses are commonly used as short-circuit protection components. The characteristics of overload protection are small setting current and inverse time action. Thermal relays and delayed electromagnetic current relays are commonly used as overload protection components. (Related knowledge: What is the relationship between the rated current and the fusing current of a fuse?)
Fuses are also commonly used as overload protection components without significant impact current.
What is overcurrent protection - In TN systems, when using fuses as short-circuit protection, the rated current of the melt should be less than 1/4 of the single-phase short-circuit current; When using a circuit breaker for protection, the setting current of the instantaneous action or short delay action overcurrent release of the circuit breaker should be less than 2/3 of the single-phase short-circuit current.
The wiring method for overcurrent protection refers to the connection method between the current transformer and the relay in the protection. Choosing the correct wiring method for protection has a significant impact on the technical and economic performance of the protection. There are three basic wiring methods: complete star connection for three-phase three relays, incomplete star connection for two-phase two relays, and two-phase current difference connection for two-phase one relay.
The complete star connection method of three-phase three relays can protect against various forms of short circuits and has high sensitivity. However, the incomplete star connection method of two-phase two relays and the two-phase current difference connection method of two-phase one relay can only protect against three-phase short circuits and various inter phase short circuits. When a short circuit occurs in a phase without a current transformer, the protection will not operate.
